After only participating for the first time in Eurovision Song Contest Coburg in 2007, Italy has made a shock withdrawal from this year's contest. While officials state that this is due to San Remo being a more popular competition, many fans believe it is an act of bad sportsmanship. Nel Blu di Pinto di Blu better known as the classic Volare failed to win favour with the audience on the night coming 4Th with 68 points. Some experts have claimed there was a bias towards the United Kingdom but others speculate that the entry was just far too dated for the modern audience. Perhaps we will see a ritornare in 2009?
